FIRST: AN IPAD IS NEITHER AN IPHONE NOR A STORAGE UNIT
The way you use an iPad is not the same as how you use an iPhone.
>The iPhone always goes with you in your pocket, the iPad does not. >The iPhone is your photo and video camera, the iPad is not. >The iPhone is your main MESSAGING device, the iPad is not. >The iPad is your video editor, the iPhone is not. >The iPad is your device for watching videos and browsing the Internet, the iPhone is not.
The iPad should not be a storage unit. You should:
Only have the necessary apps
Have some «cloud» to store multimedia and files. A flash drive also works.
I HAVE MORE THAN 21 GB (OF 64) FREE
Firstly, I control the apps I need and not one more. Even so, I have Telegram and Signal duplicated on iPhone and iPad, but not WhatsApp (fortunately, there is no WhatsApp for iPad).
Secondly, my photos and videos go from the iPhone to a cloud and are always available there.
Thirdly, when I edit videos on the iPad, I save them on an external SSD drive.
Fourthly, every few months, I empty the chats of Telegram and Signal that accumulate photos, videos, etc., and also clear Safari’s cache.
Fifthly, my iCloud is half empty because the photos go to another cloud and documents or PDFs as well.
It’s true that I don’t play games and only have a small game on the iPhone for boring waits.
IT’S IMPORTANT TO HAVE ENOUGH SPACE ON THE IPHONE, LESS IS NEEDED ON THE IPAD
If you have at least 128 GB on your iPhone and some cloud, you can manage with 64GB on the iPad.
Las he tenido buenas y malas.
NO RESBALA NADA: BUEN AGARRE
El iPad no debe ser un almacén. Debes;
Lento, cámara mediocre… no me duró mucho.
It’s a question with multiple answers, requiring several considerations.
Apple supports and updates its devices for up to 6 years. The annual changes are typically minor. Each year, Apple releases various types of iPhones: regular, «small» and large, and Pro, «small» and large. Two key factors to consider are storage capacity and battery life. With these in mind, we can address the article’s question.
IN MY OPINION, SWITCHING IPHONES EVERY YEAR OR EVERY TWO YEARS MAKES LITTLE SENSE, EXCEPT IN CERTAIN CASES.
The changes between iPhone models over 2 years are minimal and may not justify an upgrade for supposed improvements. Even differences between PRO models from one year to the next are usually minor.
This holds true within the same category (regular or Pro). However, switching from a regular to a Pro model presents more noticeable differences.
For instance, I recently upgraded from a regular iPhone 13 to a 15 Pro, and I noticed significant differences in the cameras, screen, and overall performance, although the iPhone 13 remains an exceptional smartphone.
IN FACT, THE BEST VALUE FOR MONEY IS OFTEN FOUND IN IPHONES FROM TWO GENERATIONS AGO.
If you’re looking to save money without compromising on quality and still receive four years of support, models from two years ago are often the best choice.
THERE’S A FACTOR THAT MAY NECESSITATE AN UPGRADE: STORAGE SPACE.
I own an iPhone 8 Plus with 64 GB of storage, and I struggle to fit all the apps I need along with updates. Fortunately, the 64 GB storage option has been phased out, eliminating this issue. Additionally, unlike an iPad, an iPhone requires adequate storage for messaging, social media, and other apps.
Always opt for an iPhone with sufficient storage capacity.
ANOTHER CONSIDERATION IS BATTERY LIFE.
Over time, battery capacity diminishes, but it can be remedied by replacing the battery at a reasonable cost.
SO, HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CONSIDER UPGRADING YOUR IPHONE?
If storage space isn’t an issue, it largely depends on your willingness to upgrade. Personally, I believe a reasonable timeframe is around 4 years. In that span, an iPhone undergoes substantial changes across four generations, resulting in noticeable improvements. While it’s possible to extend its lifespan beyond 7 years (likely by replacing the battery), technology evolves significantly over such a period. Phones undergo substantial changes in 7 years.
For example, the cameras and screen fluidity of the iPhone 7 Plus are vastly different from today’s models.
If you prefer always having a top-performing smartphone, consider upgrading every 3 years.
THERE ARE ALSO KEY FEATURES THAT COULD PROMPT AN UPGRADE.
For instance, the introduction of the USB-C port. Although it may seem trivial, the ability to use external drives and monitors quickly can be a game-changer for some users.
The same applies to camera improvements, such as the addition of a x5 zoom or professional video recording capabilities.
In conclusion, users have diverse needs, and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer.
RANKING DXOMARK: THE SIXTH BEST CAMERA, TIED WITH THE PRO MAX
4K/60 FPS VIDEO
The video, as always on the iPhone, is top-notch. Smooth, sharp, and well-stabilized. With de Action mode, even more stabilization.
And it can still record professional-quality footage by connecting an external SSD.
SOME TIPS
Capture at 48MP: Make sure the «Resolution Control» option is enabled in the camera settings to capture images at the maximum 48MP resolution with the main camera.
Night Mode and Macro Mode: Note that the resolution reduces to 12MP when night mode, macro mode, or the built-in flash are activated.
Volume Buttons for Photos and Videos: You can use the volume buttons to quickly take photos or hold them down to record a video.
Programmable Action Button: Use the programmable action button to open the camera app in your preferred mode (or assign other useful functions).
Flower Icon When Approaching an Object: This means the macro lens has automatically activated. To deactivate it, tap on it.
CONCLUSION
The camera is one of the reasons to opt for the more expensive Pro models. It’s something you can live without perfectly, but once you try it, you notice the difference. I understand that «content creators» and photography, video, etc. enthusiasts use the Pro models. For everyone else, the regular iPhones are more than enough with their excellent cameras.
TRES MESES DESPUES, ME VOY DANDO CUENTA DE QUE ESTE NO ES UN IPHONE “NORMAL”
iPhone 15 Pro foto
