The iPad Air is about €180 more expensive than the iPad 10. It’s a noticeable difference, but it’s best to see where they differ to judge if you need an Air, even with the higher price. In most cases, I’d say it’s not worth it for a regular user.
THE IPAD 10 WORKS WITH THE FIRST APPLE PENCIL
The iPad 10 is compatible with the 1st generation Apple Pencil, while the Air works with the more precise Pencil 2, which magnetically charges on the iPad. You can also use third-party brands like Logitech with the 10, which work well.
POWER AND RAM MEMORY
There’s a significant difference between the A14 chip and the M1 chip. The Air has 8 GB of RAM, while the iPad 10 has only 4 GB. However, for regular use, the 10’s power is excellent.
BIG FILES’ TRANSFER SPEED
Transfer Speed for Large Files to an External Drive via USB-C: The Air is exceptionally fast, which matters for multimedia editing and other resource-intensive tasks on the iPad. For regular iPad users, it’s not essential.
USING AN EXTERNAL MONITOR
The iPad 10 mirrors its screen when connected to an HDMI cable, not using the whole monitor. The iPad Air adapts to the monitor and creates a new desktop. For everyday iPad use, it’s not a significant factor.
MULTITASKING:TWO APPS VS STAGE MANAGER
The iPad 10 can only handle two apps simultaneously with others in a «Slide Over» mode.
The iPad Air does the same but also has the Visual Organizer, which allows multiple windows of any size.
IF THESE DIFFERENCES MATTER TO YOU…
Then you need an iPad Air. But for a student or anyone not heavily into multimedia editing or intensive iPad use, for a family, or for educational purposes, the iPad 10 is more than sufficient. Both have the same build quality, similar screens, 4K recording cameras, decent sound, and equal support and years of updates. With this information, you can make your decision.
